I'm Gerson Montes. Through BLOCK — Block College Counseling and Tutoring — I work one-on-one with students in Eastvale, Corona, Norco, and Chino Hills on tutoring and college applications. If you're a parent looking for personal, approachable support for your child, you're in the right place.

About me
My background brings together classroom teaching, education research, and a commitment to serving my community.
I'm a former high school English teacher who taught with Teach For America in Clarksdale, Mississippi. During that time, I designed lessons for more than 120 students and worked with families and educators to support their progress. I also founded student programs in literacy, leadership, and robotics and supported college readiness initiatives.
At the Los Angeles Unified School District, I worked as an educational research assistant, studying initiatives focused on more equitable outcomes for students. That work gave me a broader perspective on the challenges students face, both inside and outside the classroom.
Through BLOCK, I bring that experience to one-on-one tutoring and college application guidance, with a personal approach centered on each student's needs and next steps.

We'll agree on a time and format by email, and confirm any costs before booking. The college counseling introduction is free. Your request does not reserve an appointment.
A few common questions
What should my child bring to a session?
For tutoring, have your child bring assignment instructions, class materials, and any work they've tried so far. For college counseling, bring their questions, any schools you're considering together, and application or essay drafts if they have them. It's okay to be at the beginning.
How are parents involved?
Parents are welcome — especially at the first session. We'll agree together on the best arrangement for your student, including how you'd like to stay updated on their progress.
What if I need to reschedule?
Email montesgerson6@gmail.com as soon as you know you need a different time. Rescheduling and cancellation terms will be confirmed before booking.
How much does a college counselor cost?
Every family starts with a free one-hour college counseling introduction. Tutoring is $30 per 60-minute session. Ongoing monthly college counseling plans are still being finalized — we'll discuss pricing and what's included before you commit to anything.
When should my junior start working on college applications?
Spring of junior year is a great time for your student to start building a college list and planning testing and summer activities. Many students begin essays over the summer before senior year so fall deadlines feel manageable rather than rushed. If your child is earlier or later than that, it's fine — we start where they are.
